A Funny...

Alex was trying to show me something yesterday when I was busy doing something else. I stopped what I was doing and looked at the book he was showing me. He said, "Mom, look! Stop the cameras!" Oh does he make me laugh.

Back to School

Harrison started back to school last week and is in first grade! It's hard to believe that I have a first grader now. His teacher's name is Mrs. Rothrock and she's been teaching for a few years in Florida, but it new to Austin. She's very sweet and organized and seems like a good fit for Harrison. Grammy and Pappy were here to walk with us on the first day of school, and Harrison got settled in quickly. The funny thing is that the only kid in his class from last year is this little girl, Sarah. They sat next to each other all year and this year they're sitting next to each other again! This doesn't sound like too much of a big deal except for the fact that there are TEN first grade classes! He was happy about it, and said she was his funniest girl friend.




Daddy had to get to work early, so we said goodbye before we left.

On the second morning of school, I went upstairs to get Alex out of bed before taking Harrison to school and Ian went into my room to brush his teeth, which he does a thousand times a day. "Teeth!" he'll yell. When I came back downstairs, I found him still at the sink and not only had he brushed his teeth, he had also done his hair 'ala Harrison. The hair gel was out and he was rubbing it and water into his hair. He used A LOT of gel, too.

He's a week into school now and still doing well. Today marked his first day riding his bike home by himself! He met up with a few neighbors at the bike rack and they made their way home. It's really not that far and he's certainly done it enough, but I was a little nervous. What I realized was that I could see him from Kevin's office window! I saw him ride his bike from the back of the school, through the playground and down the little path. He did great! Don't even think I need to spy on him tomorrow. He also read us a really long book tonight and was getting words like "tumbling" right. He's so big now!

New Adventures in Grossness

I was having a nice mother-son moment with Harrison in my lap telling me something that was I'm sure extremely important, when I noticed something foreign in his hair. As I pushed him to the floor and screamed, "LICE!!!""...no, just kidding. Not about the lice, but the reaction. Yes, we had to deal with head lice. I have no idea where the kids got it, but it was disgusting! Harrison had it really bad (I'll spare you the details of how many bugs I found). So, after about 3 hours of hair care and probably 10 loads of laundry, I think we're a nit-free house. Harrison and Alex were absolute angels while I was washing and combing out there hair. Here are the pictures to prove it.

First Grade on the horizon

Harrison and I went to meet his teacher on Thursday and drop off his school supplies. He REALLY wanted to have Mr. Johnson be his teacher this year. Last year at a school picnic, he ended up playing laser tag with Mr. Johnson and thought that was SO cool. I think he would have responded really well to him, too, but I thought the odds were not in our favor of getting him. There are 10 first grade classes this year in Harrison's school! Over crowding this year will be remedied by a new school being built to start next year. Anyway, his teacher next year will be Mrs. Rothrock and after meeting her he is ok. Definitely saw his face fall when I said her name, but he liked her and thought she seemed very nice.

So, because there are 10 classes, it was unlikely that he would be grouped with many of his buddies from last year. There were a couple of friendly faces in his class, and what's funny is that one of the girls, Sarah, is sitting right next to him! Even funnier, she sat next to him for the entire year last year! He really liked that. She's quite the crack-up, apparently.

So, I'll post first day pictures on Monday! I can't believe we have a first grader!

Ian had helped himself to the jello and dumped the whole serving spoon on top of him. He was sporting quite the look!




Christy captured an even more impressive rainbow picture! It really was this bright and it was a full rainbow!

Conflict

Conflict is a daily occurrence in our home. The players vary, but it happens reliably.

Kevin and I were downstairs watching the USA vs. China Olympic basketball game and we hear rumblings upstairs. Next, really loud crying. Ian, very upset. Kevin calmly walks to the stairs to meet Alex, who is on his way down already in defensive mode. Kevin asks, "What happened to Ian. Why is he crying?"

Alex's response, "Oh yeah? Well, he was tryin' to steal my moves! He wouldn't listen to me. He kept trying to steal my moves!"

Back to reality...

We just got back from a wonderful vacation to Keystone, Colorado. The whole Witt crew made their way to the mountains and we enjoyed good food, catching up, and lots of fun activities. It was really amazing that everyone was able to attend given the distances needed to travel, work schedules and kid schedules that could have been obstacles. The kids all enjoyed running around and playing together and Ian found many new friends to terrorize. Just kidding...sort of.

We were able to go horseback riding with the big boys, while Grammy kept Ian. Harrison has been entertaining all who will listen about his horse "Buttermilk" who tried to buck him off. True story. His horse was trying to eat grass and Harrison was instructed not to allow the horses to eat. So, following his instructions, he pulled back hard on the reigns and kicked the horse. Buttermilk got a little irritated and did a little bucking action to show her disapproval. Harrison stayed calm, and was able to navigate the horse, with the help of the guide, away from the tempting grass.

Alex also enjoyed the ride in the lap of Daddy on his horse, Kansas. He saw several people being handed sticks to help move their horses along and he really wanted a "dick!", too. I guess we need to work on the "st" sound.

We had a lot of fun bike riding, too. Alex and Ian liked their ride in the bike trailer and Harrison rode a tag-a-long with Daddy. Uncle Ian took pity on me on the way back when the hills started to get to me and took over the trailing duty.

On the way back, we took a break on this bridge overlooking a really pretty stream.

Harrison helped peddle "most" of the time. Daddy got quite a workout!

Once Ian saw Alex take a turn on the tag-a-long, he HAD to ride the BBBIIIIIIKKKKKKEEEEE!!!!!!

This is the most vibrant rainbow I have ever seen. The picture doesn't really do it justice, but it was just so bright!

The downside of the trip was the very last day when I got a lovely stomach virus (along with Aunt Leslie). It made for a very interesting trip home to say the least. Thank goodness Grammy and Pappy were at the airport to help with luggage and kids because I was completely useless.

On the home front, the kids are having a really fun summer. We're swimming a lot, having a lot of play dates and trying to stay cool. Harrison is reading a bunch now, Alex is swimming without the help of floaties and Ian is talking so much more. He's obsessed with bikes, water, and dogs.

My brother made me do it.

The neglected blog is getting some action, thanks to my brother Scott. I didn't realize how long it's been since I last posted about the boys! Way too long, and too many things have happened to go through them all.



In a nutshell...everyone's great!



Harrison continues to do well in school, and loves his video games, riding his bike and scooter, playing with action figures, and visiting his favorite toy store, "Wonko's".



Alex still has his best friend Do-Do, that he takes almost everywhere. He abruptly stopped sucking his thumb around Thanksgiving but still likes to cuddle with Do-Do when he gets tired. He potty-trained in January and is even wearing underwear to bed now! He's trying to convince me he needs to stand up to pee, but I'm not buying it. Alex loves going to school and sportball and really loves his friends. He's very social and outgoing. Talking a lot more and some of his cutest little sayings recently were, "Check it out Old Man" and mooning Kevin at the same time.



Ian is still crazy! I think since I last blogged he's cracked his head open and had his teeth go through his bottom lip, along with too many bruises to count. Thankfully we've avoided stitches so far. He's talking a little bit and labels his favorite things like dogs "dog-dog", mama, dada, ha-son, a-ec, and his very favorite..."wa-ther"! Today he mastered "awesome" and my personal favorite "MINE!" He's cute as a button and thankfully has grown out of his mommy-itis a bit. He's pretty independent and loves to play.
